The Vineyard Party Daisy if You Do 2022
Sémillon is one of the original heritage grapes, accounting for more than 90% of vineyard plantings in the
Cape in the 1820s. Nowadays, it accounts for less than 1% of total plantings here in South Africa.
This sémillion is pithy and complex, with a lovely lees complexity, and notes of fresh hazelnuts alongside a core of citrus fruit. Just a delicious discovery, from a charming young winemaker, Jolette Steyn.

2022 vintage: The vines experienced a properly cold winter (Jun-Aug 2021), a cool growing season and
moderate weather leading up to harvest (Jan-Feb 2022), allowing for slow and layered flavour
development. December and January saw multiple heatwaves, causing a further delay in ripening as
vines shut down (closed stomata to conserve water, reducing photosynthesis and thus sugar
accumulation). Rains during this time increased disease pressure. Deciding on the picking date was tricky
yet vital. Rigorous sorting in the vineyard and cellar was necessary. All indications point to a classical
Stellenbosch vintage.
Wine of Origin: Stellenbosch, Cape Coastal Region, Western Cape, South Africa
Stellenbosch kloof on Bottelary hills; south-east facing slopes
Vine age: 23 years
Soils: Shale, Weathered granite, and gravel towards the bottom of the hill
Viticulture: Sustainable
Harvest: Sunrise, hand harvested into kissies (lug boxes), overnighted in cold room, processed next day

Press: Whole bunch pressed. Pneumatic press, champagne cycle – slow and gentle
Fermentation: Spontaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. Juice fermented in neutral oak
French barrels 1 x 600L, 1 x 500L, 2 x 225L
Skin-contact: None
Aging: 11 months in neutral French oak barrels
Volume: 1704 x 750mL (142 cases x 12)
